New Delhi : Sixteen army personnel lost their lives and four others were injured in an accident involving an army truck at Zema in North Sikkim. It is reported that the accident occurred when the vehicle skidded while taking a turn. Accidental vehicle fell into the valley. It is understood that the jawans who are in serious condition have been admitted to the hospital.

Three army vehicles were carrying soldiers this morning. This fleet was heading towards Thangu from Chatan. On the way to Gema, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle due to a steep incline and the vehicle plunged into the valley below. On getting information about the accident, local police officials reached the spot and started rescue operations. 4 injured soldiers have been rescued from the valley with the help of a helicopter. A total of 16 jawans died in this accident, including three junior officers and 13 soldiers who were injured. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that the Indian Army stands firm with the bereaved families on the occasion of this tragedy.
