Raju Thakuri, Rabin Hamal and Anil Sahi had come to Kerala for the funeral of Reverend Mathew Philip. Philip was a Christian missionary who lived in Nepal for 45 years. Philip, suffering from cancer, returned to Kerala two years ago and was undergoing treatment there. But, on January 11, Philip died at the age of 76. Apart from the three friends, Sharan Shai and Suman Thapa also went to Kerala for his last rites. These people regarded Philip as a father figure.
Lost three close friends
Philip was cremated on January 13. The flight of the five persons was from Kochi to Mumbai and from there to Kathmandu. Two of them stayed in Mumbai. So, the three boarded the plane to go to Kathmandu. Philip’s brother Thomas told PTI that the news of the death of the three was a big shock for us. After the accident, the passenger list of the plane was immediately checked. That’s when the family realized they had lost three close friends, Philip’s grandson said.
Deadliest plane crash in 30 years
A major plane crash took place in Pokhara, Nepal on Sunday. The plane crash has become the deadliest plane crash in the country’s 30-year history. The plane was carrying 72 people including 68 passengers and 4 crew members. Shortly before landing, Yeti Airlines aircraft 9N-ANC ATR-72 crashed on the banks of the Seti River, causing the accident.
