New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi have demanded cancellation of the Republic Day Parade on Rajpath in Delhi. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor asked why the entire event should not be canceled as no prominent guests would be participating in the Republic Day parade this year. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra responded to Tharoor’s remarks. Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi was targeted. “Rahul Gandhi did not cancel his celebration,” Patra said.

Every year on Republic Day, 26th January, on the streets of the capital Delhi, India showcases its culture and prowess. Every year a foreign president is invited to the event as the chief guest. The chief guest this year was British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. But due to a new wave of corona virus in Britain, he has canceled his India tour. Now this year’s Republic Day will be celebrated without chief guests.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has demanded that the entire event be canceled as the chief guest will not be attending the Republic Day parade on Rajpath in Delhi. Tharoor tweeted about it. Now, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s visit to India this month has been canceled due to the Corona wave, and no key guests will be attending the Republic Day event this time. So why not go a step further and cancel the entire event, Tharoor said.
Going a step further, why not cancel the Republic Day celebrations, it would be irresponsible to gather the usual crowd to watch the parade, Tharoor said.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra reacted sharply to Tharoor’s tweet. Patra also attacked the Congress, dragging Rahul Gandhi into the discussion. “Republic Day parade is not a normal ‘celebration’ that should be canceled. Besides, Rahul Gandhi has not canceled his celebration. He continues to travel far and wide. However, Congress is demanding cancellation of Republic Day parade,” Tola Patra said.

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has also demanded cancellation of the Republic Day parade. The corona virus has been an unwanted guest in the country for over a year. In such a scenario, it would have been appropriate to cancel large events and ceremonies. Chaturvedi said that the ceremony could have been celebrated with pride after the corona virus went away.
