The inclusion of Bhupinder Singh Mann’s name in the committee has already been widely criticized. Also, all the four members of the committee had supported the Agriculture Act. Therefore, the farmers refused to show faith in this committee. According to farmers’ organizations, Bhupinder Singh Mann had already supported the agriculture laws.
After this, Bhupinder Singh Mann wrote a letter informing that he was leaving the committee. He thanked the Supreme Court for including him in the committee. He also said that he has always stood for the interest of Punjab and farmers.
Being a farmer and the leader of a farmers association, we can understand the feelings of the farmers. We have always been loyal to the farmers and to Punjab. The interests of the farmers will never be compromised. For this, we are ready to release water to any big post, said Mann in the letter.
You will not be able to fulfill the responsibility given by the Supreme Court. Therefore, Mann has decided to separate from this committee.
The committee set up by the apex court included Bhupinder Singh Mann, farmers association president Anil Ghanwat, agricultural economist Ashok Gulati and Pramod Joshi of the International Food Policy Research Institute.
