‘I am raising the question of people whose voices have not reached the House. In Maharashtra, these people carry burdens on their heads, help to carry burdens through railway carriages or work inside market committees. The Mathadi Board was formed by the Maharashtra government about 25 years ago to prevent such porters or Mathadi workers from being exploited. There are about 36 Mathadi Boards in Maharashtra. There are Mathadi Boards in different parts of Pune, Aurangabad, Konkan, Nashik, Nagpur, Amravati. The purpose of forming this board was not to exploit the poor, uneducated Mathadi workers. The chairman of this board is involved in politics, ‘said Imtiaz Jalil.
‘The current situation is that they work hard and their hard earned money goes directly to the board without getting it to these Mathadi workers. About 30% of the workers’ hard earned money is kept by the board. The remaining 70 percent falls into the hands of workers. In the Lok Sabha, Imtiaz said that 12 per cent of the 30 per cent of the workers’ rights money is taken out under the name of ‘Employees Provident Fund’ of the Central Government.
According to the law, if any organization employs more than 22 workers, the amount of their PF fund should be credited to the PF account of the Central Government. However, even though millions of workers’ rights and hard earned money are being deposited in the name of PF by the board, not a single rupee of it is deposited in the PF account of the central government. Imtiaz Jalil urged the government to withdraw all the money from private banks and deposit it in the central government’s PF account as soon as possible.
If the matter is investigated by the CBI, the chairman of the Mathadi board will come to power. Imtiaz Jalil also commented on the Mathadi Board that action will be taken against the labor department which is responsible for these workers.
