coronavirus: Center issues new guidelines for foreign travelers

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health has issued new guidelines (SOPs) for international travelers. Three types of coronavirus update (UK, South Africa and Brazil) have been found in the country. New guidelines have since been issued. The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that new types of corona in all three countries have a greater potential to increase infection. The virus is endemic in 86 countries in Britain, 44 in South Africa and 15 in Brazil. This has led to the issuance of new guidelines (SOPs) for overseas travelers. These instructions will take effect from midnight on 22 February.

There has been no change in the procedure (SOP) for all international passengers (excluding flights starting from the UK, Europe and the Middle East). Such passengers will have to upload a negative RT-PCR report of the corona test taken 72 hours ago on the air facility portal and bring it with them. Such passengers will be exempted from the test report only in the event of an emergency like death. The same protocol will apply to passengers arriving at Seaport and Landport. International travelers arriving or departing from the UK, Europe and the Middle East will be required to provide a self-declaration form for the last 14 days.

All passengers will upload and bring their 72-hour negative RT-PCR report. Apart from this, all passengers will be required to undergo molecular testing after landing at the Indian airport and the cost will be borne by the passengers. All such passengers will be seated at a different marked place on the flight (based on the last 14 days of travel information) which will make it easier for them to follow the protocol laid down for them. The molecular test and its reporting process can take 6 to 8 hours. Therefore, the airline should inform the passenger in advance of the transit time at the Indian airport.

Passengers from Britain, Brazil and South Africa will be allowed to take connecting flights from Indian airports after a molecular test negative. Such passengers will be advised to stay in quarantine for 7 days at home. After 7 days, such passengers will be re-tested and if their report is negative, they will be released from quarantine. But for the next 7 days their health will have to be monitored. Passengers from UK, Brazil and South Africa currently at Indian airports can leave the airport with their samples. But the state administration or agency will be in touch with them. The state administration will collect the reports of such passengers and inform them.

After the report is negative, the passengers will be under home quarantine for 7 days and the state administration will monitor their health. After 7 days, such passengers will be re-tested and if found negative, they will be released from quarantine. But health needs to be closely monitored. Travelers from Brazil, South Africa and the UK will be segregated at the airport or home quarantine if they are found to be positive, or if they are found to be in contact with a positive. Their samples will be sent for genome sequencing.
