Kolkata: The CBI on Sunday issued a notice to Rujira Banerjee, wife of Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in an illegal coal mining and smuggling case. CBI officials arrived at Abhishek Banerjee’s Santiniketan in Kalighat area on Sunday afternoon.

It is learned that the CBI notice was in the name of Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira. It is learned that Abhishek and his wife were not at his residence at the time. A notice has been issued to Abhishek’s wife to file a statement as a witness under Section 160 of the CRPC, CBI sources said.

It is said that the CBI has got some important information in the financial transactions in the coal case. Rujira’s name has also come up in it. For the same information, the CBI wants to interrogate Rujira Banerjee. They do not want to appear in the CBI office. He wants to speak to them at his residence at his convenience and record his reply to the CBI.
