Anti Conversion Law: Not to the family but to the UP police; Interfaith marriage prevented

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police have stopped a marriage citing the recently enacted anti-conversion law in Uttar Pradesh. The wedding was stopped by the police a few hours before the ceremony as the bride and groom were preparing for the wedding with their families. In Uttar Pradesh, there has been a flurry of talk of abusing the anti-conversion law, which was enacted by the ordinance as anti-love jihad.

An enlightened Hindu young woman and a Muslim young man are engaged to each other in a ceremony as a lifelong partner. According to Hindu tradition, the marriage was solemnized. After that, according to the Muslim tradition, the wedding ceremony was organized by the bride and groom.

However, after the Hindu Mahasabha chief’s suggestion, the police intervened in the marriage and the marriage was stopped.

Bride Raina Gupta (22 years old) has completed her postgraduate studies in Chemistry. Mohammad Asif (24 years old) is working as a pharmacist.

Police action

The wedding was held in the Mercury area of ​​Lucknow. According to both Hindu and Muslim traditions, the marriage was to take place. The marriage was also approved by the families on both sides. However, Hindu Mahasabha district president Brajesh Shukla objected to the marriage and rushed to the police, police station in-charge Triloki Singh said.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Suresh Chandra Rawat, the ban was imposed under sections 3 and 8 of the anti-conversion ordinance 2020, which was recently enacted in Uttar Pradesh. The ordinance states that no one should try to convert or convert. He also said that it is illegal to convert to Islam by force, incitement, cheating and bargaining.

The family expressed outrage

According to Vijay Gupta, the father-in-law, no one was forcibly converted for marriage. The marriage was allowed without any conditions from both the families.

“Even if both the parties agree for an inter-religious marriage, we do not know whether the marriage can take place only with the approval of the district magistrate or not,” he said.

Now, the marriage will take place only after getting the permission of the magistrate for this marriage, it was clarified by the bride and groom.
