Soldiers were fired on from three sides

The security forces had received information that there were Naxalites in the hills of Jonaguda. This was followed on Friday night by the CRPF’s Cobra Commando, CRPF Bastaria Battalion and 2,000 Special Task Force personnel who launched a search operation against the Naxals. But the Naxals surrounded 700 soldiers and fired indiscriminately at them from three sides. ANI has reported that 22 jawans were martyred in this. Naxals have looted more than two dozen weapons from the jawans.

Apart from 180 Naxalites, about 250 Naxalites from Konta Area Committee, Palmed Area Committee, Jagargunda Erita Committee and Sabaguda Area Committee were also present at the spot. It is learned that the Naxals took the bodies in two tractors, said Inspector General of Police P.S. Sundarraj said.

The Jonaguda hills in the Bijapur-Sukam district border are the main stronghold of the Naxals. A whole battalion of Naxals and several platoons are permanently stationed here. The entire area is led by Naxalite Sujata. Senior police officials already had suspicions that the Naxals would launch a major attack on the jawans. Due to this, more than 2,000 jawans were deployed in the entire area to take action against the Naxalites.

The first shooting caused extensive damage. But the jawans responded to the Naxal firing and broke the siege and killed more than three Naxalites. The bodies of the wounded and martyred soldiers were also taken out. The martyrs include 2-2 Bastaria Battalion and DRG and one Cobra.

CRPF’s DG in Chhattisgarh

Following the incident, CRPF Director General Kuldeep Singh has arrived in Chhattisgarh. They are going to review the whole situation. After the incident in Bijapur, the Union Home Ministry instructed him to go to Chhattisgarh. Home Minister Amit Shah instructed the Director General to go to Bijapur. He is also in touch with the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
