Bharat Bandh: ‘Bhim Army’ president Chandrasekhar Ravana in police custody

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad Ravana, who was on his way to participate in a ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by farmers’ organizations against agricultural laws. Earlier, Chandrasekhar Ravana was seen with his supporters participating in a farmers’ agitation on the Uttar Pradesh border.

Uttar Pradesh police have also detained Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Inderjit Singh at his residence in Ghaziabad. The action was taken by the Uttar Pradesh police while Inderjit was on his way to participate in the Bharat Bandh in support of the farmers’ movement.

Supporting the farmers ‘movement in Varanasi too, Samajwadi Party workers tried to organize a farmers’ yatra in Ravindrapuri area. However, they were stopped by the police. Strict police security has been deployed against the backdrop of India shutdown.

Many farmers’ organizations across the country had called for a shutdown in India today in protest of agricultural laws. This includes many states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra. More than 400 farmers’ organizations from across the country have participated in the Bharat Bandh, which was called under the banner of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee.
