Ranchi: Naxals blew up a railway track in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur railway division on Sunday night. As a result, the Howrah-Mumbai main railway line has been blocked.

According to information received, the Naxals, with the help of landmines, detonated their explosives on the railway tracks near Lotapahad in Chakradharpur railway division. The incident took place at 2.15 pm. After getting information about this incident, Chakradharpur railway department stopped the operation of the concerned train.

Landmines have caused severe damage to railway tracks. Therefore, operation of Howrah-Mumbai main railway line is not possible now. Passenger trains are stranded at various stations of Chakradharpur railway division.

Railway officials along with district police and RPF rushed to the spot after receiving information that Naxals had blown up the railway tracks. Further investigation into the incident is underway. The stalled train will be reopened soon after repairing the tracks, officials said.

Opposition to ‘Operation Prahar’

It is believed that the railway track was blown up targeting the Azad Hind Express. However, the Naxals did not succeed. No passenger train was damaged.
