Assembly Elections 2021: Ban on winning processions after elections, Election Commission orders

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced a major decision after the Madras High Court struck down Karona for violating the rules during the election campaign during the transition period. After the results of the Assembly elections to be declared on May 2, the commission has banned any procession.

Therefore, political leaders and their activists will not be able to celebrate victory on the streets or in public places.

The Madras High Court had on Monday sought a “blue print” from the Election Commission on the preparations for the Assembly polls. Also, the court had slammed the Election Commission.

The Madras High Court had said during the hearing that the Election Commission was one-sidedly responsible for the second wave of Corona infection and that a case of murder might be filed against the Election Commission officials. Corona also warned of a halt to the vote count due to a lack of proper preparation in the wake of the transition.

Political parties, leaders, candidates and activists are watching the Assembly results to be declared on May 2. Following the announcement of the results, the Election Commission has taken this important decision considering the possibility of several processions being held in violation of the Corona Rules.
