New Delhi: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Sadanand Gowda has given the information. To streamline the supply of remdesivir used for the treatment of coronavirus, it has been allotted to the states and union territories of the country till May 16, Gowda said. The production capacity of Remdesivir has been increased to 1.03 crore vials. Earlier, Remadesivir was producing 38 lakh vials, Gowda said on Tuesday.

Sadanand Gowda tweeted the information on Friday. Care has been taken to meet the needs of each State and Union Territory and to ensure adequate reserves. Remedesivir has been distributed till May 16. This will help in smoothing the supply of remedesivir. “Patients will not have to face any difficulties,” Gowda said in a tweet.

Production of Remedesivir in India

Remadesivir is developed by the American company Gilead Lifesciences. The American company has entered into agreements with six pharmaceutical companies in India for the production of Remedesivir. Zydus Cadila, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Hetero Drugs, Jubliant Life Sciences, Cipla Ltd and Syconene of Biocon Group. It is also being manufactured by the Indian unit of American company Mylan. It is also exported to more than 120 countries.
