New Delhi: No one can be granted interim bail for fear of a coronavirus crisis, the Supreme Court ruled in a case on Tuesday. The court also stayed the decision of the Allahabad High Court in the case. Prisons have a high number of inmates. The Allahabad High Court had said that anticipatory bail could be granted to prisoners as the number of corona patients was increasing.

The Allahabad High Court had recently granted bail to Pratik Jain till January 2022 on the basis of fear of death by Corona. More than 130 cases have been registered against Prateek Jain. Given the growing number of Corona patients, it would not be appropriate to send a single accused to jail. The Allahabad High Court had said in the order that his life was in danger.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh had moved the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court’s decision. The Supreme Court stayed the High Court order while hearing the case. Interim bail is granted in different cases on different grounds.
