- Demand for free vaccination of youth in the age group of 18 to 45 years
- ‘State expected to spend Rs 1,100 crore for youth vaccination’
- An additional Rs 1,000 crore is likely to be required for immunization of children soon.
Hemant Soren said it was not possible to provide Rs 1,100 crore for vaccination to Jharkhand, which is facing financial difficulties due to corona infection.
It is expected to cost around Rs 1 crore 57 lakh to provide vaccines to the citizens of the state between the ages of 18 to 45 years. The state government will have to spend Rs 1,100 crore to procure such a large number of vaccines. Also, vaccines for young children are likely to be available soon. Hemant Soren said in his letter that there may be an additional need of around Rs 1,000 crore for this too.
The supply of vaccines is one of the biggest challenges in the ongoing vaccination drive in the state. In his letter, Soren also said that it would be difficult for Jharkhand, which is in financial difficulties, to spend so much from its meager income.
Different prices for state and center
Covishield and covacin vaccines used in India are priced differently by the central government and the state government. The center is spending Rs 150 for each dose of vaccines from both the companies. The states, however, are charging Rs 300 per dose for covachield and Rs 400 per dose for covacin. For private hospitals, the same price is Rs 600 for Covishield and Rs 1,200 for Covacin.
‘Enough money from the center for vaccination’
Explaining the importance of the Central Vista project, which is expected to cost Rs 1,300 crore, Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had on Monday said that the central government had “enough money available for vaccination”. He had mentioned that the availability of vaccines was the real problem.
