(pranab mukherjee blamed sonia gandhi and dr manmohan singh for the 2014 defeat of the congress)

The Presidential Years is being published by Rupa Publications. Dr. Pranab Mukherjee writes, “Some members of the Congress had speculated that if I had become the Prime Minister in 2004, the Congress might not have lost in 2014.” However, I do not accept this idea, but I believe that the party leadership lost its political consciousness after I became the President. While Sonia Gandhi was unable to handle the party’s affairs, Dr. (Manmohan) Singh’s long absence ended the personal contact of other MPs.

Pranab Mukherjee’s book is being published in January. In this book, Pranab Mukherjee analyzes that the Congress was badly defeated in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Until Pranab Mukherjee became President in 2012, he was a Union Minister in every Congress government. He also mentions in the book the two prime ministers he worked with. Among these prime ministers is Dr. Manmohan Singh and his successor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mukherjee has also compared the two prime ministers.

Pranab Mukherjee writes, ‘I believe that the moral right to govern belongs to the Prime Minister. The whole state of the nation reflects the functioning of the Prime Minister and his administration. Dr. Singh was advised to save the front. This fell heavily on the regime. Modi seems to have adopted an authoritarian style of government in his first term. As such, it is seen through the bitter relationship between the government, the legislature and the judiciary. Only time will tell whether the second term of this government will have a better understanding in this regard.
