Supreme Court: Will Presidential rule be implemented in West Bengal? Notice to the State along with the Center of the Supreme Court

New Delhi: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court in the case of political violence that erupted in West Bengal after the Assembly elections. The petition seeks President’s rule as law and order in the state deteriorates after the Assembly elections in West Bengal. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition. The petition also demanded that the Center be directed to deploy armed and paramilitary forces to normalize the situation in West Bengal with the help of administrative officers and to protect them from any kind of impropriety.

The apex court, headed by Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, has issued notices to the Center, West Bengal and the Election Commission on the petition filed in the West Bengal violence case. The state has also been asked to provide financial assistance to the victims of the violence that erupted after the Assembly elections by reviewing the damage done to them and their family members. A bench of the apex court said that notices were being issued to the Center, the West Bengal government and the Election Commission in this regard. The bench did not issue notice to Mamata Banerjee as the fourth Trinamool Congress chief in the case.
