New Delhi: Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala has finally been released from jail. Chautala was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a teacher recruitment scam.

Former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala has completed his sentence in the much talked about JBT scam case. Notably, Om Prakash Chautala is already out of jail on parole. So now they will have to go to Tihar Jail just to complete the formalities of release.

Twelfth examination was given from jail

Former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, 82, has completed his 12th standard of education, citing the time of his imprisonment. Chautala got first class in 12th. During his sentence, he sat for the Class XII examination conducted by the National Open School at a center set up for inmates at Tihar Jail. The final exam was held on April 23. Chautala, meanwhile, was released on parole. However, as the examination center was in the prison premises, he returned to the jail and sat for the examination.

What is the JBT scam?

A special CBI court had on January 22, 2013, sentenced 55 accused, including Chautala, to rigorous imprisonment in the JBT scam case. The accused had illegally recruited 3206 junior basic teachers. The recruitment was done in 2000. Om Prakash Chautala was the Chief Minister of Haryana at that time. The accused had filed an application in the High Court against the decision of the lower court. Chautala was granted interim bail at the medical ground during the hearing. However, in October 2014, the High Court had ordered Chautala to surrender before the police.
