The case was disclosed by the ATS
The case was earlier probed by the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). However, the case was handed over to the CBI after a fake gun license was issued to non-Jammu and Kashmir residents.
The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad had disclosed the matter in 2017. More than 50 people were also arrested on charges of issuing illegal weapons licenses. According to the ATS, more than 3,000 licenses were issued in the name of Army personnel. Based on the ATS’s findings, the then Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, NN Vohra, had handed over the case to the CBI.
The CBI probe had revealed that gun licenses were issued to non-Jammu and Kashmir residents in Udhampur, Doda, Ramban and Kupwada districts with the help of false documents. It is alleged that an IAS officer was involved in the incident. It is understood that the officer was working as a Deputy Commissioner (DC) in a district at that time.
