PM Modi unveils statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath

Kedarnath, Uttarakhand: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kedarnath today ahead of the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections. Here he performed pooja-archana and rudrabhishek in the famous Kedarnath temple. Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath.

At the Dehradun airport, Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Garmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were present to receive the Prime Minister.

In Kedarnath, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a statue of Shankaracharya. The Kedarnath temple was renovated by Adi Shankaracharya, who was born in Kerala. The idol of Lord Shiva in Kedarnath is 12 feet high and weighs 35 tons.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the tomb of Shankaracharya. This tomb was destroyed in the flood of 2013.

After unveiling the statue of Adi Shankaracharya, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a Rs 130 crore project in Kedarnath. He also inaugurated more than Rs. 400 crore works and laid the foundation stone.

Chief Minister Dhami was also present

The Prime Minister is accompanied by former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirtha Singh Rawat and current Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Earlier this week, the BJP state president, along with former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat, faced strong opposition in Kedarnath. Despite staying in Kedarnath Dham for seven hours, former Chief Minister Rawat did not even get a chance to visit the priests. In January 2020, the Trivendra Singh Rawat government had constituted the Char Dham Devasthanam Board. At this time, 51 other temples including Char Dhams came under the control of the state government. There are four dhams in Uttarakhand namely Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Bradinath. The BJP government was strongly opposed by the Purohit and Panda community, saying that the decision of the state government had taken away their rights. After this, the priests had announced their decision to oppose the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later on Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself entered Kedarnath and tried to persuade the priests.
