Lucknow: 63 Hindu Bengali families who entered India from Pakistan during 1970 will be rehabilitated in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Sarkar has taken this decision. On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the proposal.

Refugees awaiting rehabilitation for 50 years

These 63 Hindu Bengali families will be rehabilitated in rural Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. They will be provided two acres of land for agriculture as well as 200 square feet of land in Kanpur for building houses.

Also, Rs 1.20 lakh will be given to these families from the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme for building a house on this land.

The UP Government has set aside 121.41 hectares of land in rural Kanpur for the rehabilitation scheme for these displaced families. The Yogi government has also promised to implement programs like land improvement and irrigation facilities on this land.

The land provided to these families for agriculture and housing will be leased for one year for 30 years. This agreement can be renewed twice for 30-30 years, for a total of 90 years.

A total of 65 families from Pakistan to India

In 1970, 65 Bengali refugee families from East Pakistan arrived in Uttar Pradesh. These families were temporarily rehabilitated in the Madan Cotton Mill in Hastinapur Meerut. However, the mill closed on August 8, 1984. So, once again, the crisis of homelessness fell on these refugee families.

All members of Evanna’s two families have died. The remaining 63 families have been awaiting rehabilitation since 1984.
