Kolkata: The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal is in a state of turmoil after senior leaders revolted. Party president and chief minister Mamata Banerjee has called an emergency meeting of the party on Friday. Mamata Banerjee has called the meeting after the dramatic resignation of the party’s senior NK Suvendu Adhikari. Officials are rumored to be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday.

However, sources in the Trinamool Congress said that this was not an emergency meeting but part of the party’s regular meetings. Sources also said that the party president meets TMC leaders every Friday.

Sensation in Trinamool Congress

Assembly elections are being held in West Bengal next year. Before that, there was a stir in the Trinamool Congress party. The party leadership is worried that even the younger leaders, including the big ones, have taken the path of rebellion. Suvendu Adhikari, who is considered close to Mamata Banerjee, resigned on Thursday. Within an hour of his resignation, he went to the house of a party MP.

The officials had gone to the house of Trinamool Congress MP Sunil Mandal to attend the mourning rally. However, the meeting is believed to be a mini-meeting of disgruntled party leaders. Before the officer, Jitendra Tiwari, a Trinamool Congress MLA and former mayor of Asansol, had also leveled serious allegations against the state government.
