The controversial Citizenship Amendment Act was notified on December 12, 2019. Thereafter, it was implemented from January 10, 2020. According to the amendment, six religious minorities (Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, Christians and Sikhs) from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan are proposed to be granted Indian citizenship. Also, in order to obtain Indian citizenship, the minimum age for any person in India is 11 years, according to the amended law, only six years.
