New Delhi: The Omicron variant has been introduced in India. Two patients of this variant have been found in Karnataka while five of the patients in contact with one of them have tested positive. After two Omicron patients were found in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandvi convened a meeting of health officials at the airport and port departments. He also held discussions with other vigilance and inspection officers and made important suggestions underlining the dangers of Omicron. In Karnataka, the state where Omicron patients were found, rapid steps are being taken. New Kovid regulations will be implemented in the state. Expert help will be sought. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that strict rules would be laid down for passengers coming mainly from high risk countries.

Strict rules in Maharashtra

Restrictions for air travelers in Maharashtra have been tightened against the backdrop of Omicron virus. The focus is on travelers from high-risk countries such as South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Separate arrangements may be made by the Airport Management Authority for the high risk passengers to land at a separate counter, so that their inspection and verification at all the international airports in the State of Maharashtra may be facilitated. All such high-risk air passengers will have to undergo RTPCR tests immediately upon landing at the international airport and will have to undergo seven days of forced institutional isolation. Their second RTPCR test will be done after a period of seven days. If anyone tests positive, the high-risk passengers will be admitted to a hospital with covid treatment facility, and if their RTPCR test is negative on the seventh day, the high-risk air traveler will be required to stay at home for seven days, the government said. MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS LIMITED (MIAL) should provide information to all airlines about the passengers who have flown in the last fortnight so that it is easy to verify the travel information of these passengers. It was also warned that action would be taken against the passengers under various sections of the Disaster Management Act if they were found to have given false information. All domestic air travelers must be fully vaccinated. If not, they will be required to have an RTPCR negative report 72 hours prior to arrival.

What new rules in which state?

– The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to conduct covid test at two major railway stations, bus stands and crowded places in Lucknow. Outbound passengers will be checked at the entry point and travel history will be recorded.

– Considering the possibility of increasing the number of patients in Delhi, emphasis is being laid on increasing the health facilities. Oxygen supply is being monitored while more than 30,000 beds are being prepared in the hospital.

– 477 passengers from 11 countries in Tamil Nadu have tested negative. Still, precautionary measures are being taken. Separate wards have been set up in 4 medical colleges at Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Madurai.
