New Delhi: Famous Kathak dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj (Birju maharaj passed away) died of a heart attack. Padma Vibhushan award winner Birju Maharaj (83) breathed his last at midnight on Sunday. Birju Maharaj’s grandson Swaransh Mishra gave this information through social media.

Birju Maharaj was admitted to Saket Hospital in Delhi due to ill health. Today, the rhythm of Indian music has stopped. The tunes are silent. Prices are zero. Malini Awasthi paid homage to the late Pandit Birju Maharaj, the king of Kathak.
Born into a Kathak family in Lucknow, Birju Maharaj’s father Achchan Maharaj and uncle Shambhu Maharaj were among the famous artists of the country. His original name was Brijmohan Mishra. With the untimely demise of his father, the responsibility of the family soon fell on his shoulders. He started learning Kathak from his uncle.
