The challenge of reducing road accidents
Nitin Gadkari presented alarming statistics on road accidents in the House. India accounts for 11% of all road accidents worldwide. An average of 5 lakh people are involved in road accidents every year. One and a half lakh people die in it. “We have to make efforts to reduce this and we are taking steps in that direction,” Gadkari said. The government is currently focusing on road safety and has made airbags mandatory for any car manufactured in the country, he said. Gadkari also presented a roadmap for road development in the House. Gadkari assured the people that by the end of 2024, you will see a network of roads like the United States.
