Mann also clarified the reason behind the decision to give one term pension to MLAs. He said, “There are MLAs who have been elected four times, five times and even six times. There are some losers in it now. All of them get the same amount of pension according to their total term. There are some who were first MPs and then became MLAs. They are both getting pensions. Some are getting a pension of Rs 4 lakh and some Rs 5 lakh per month. Yapoti is spending crores of rupees from the Punjab government’s coffers. With this in mind, we have decided to give only one term pension to the MLA from now on. The Punjab government’s decision on MLAs’ pensions will save crores of rupees, which will be spent for the benefit of the common man, he said. Mann further said that the family pension of MLAs will also be reduced.

Unemployment is the biggest problem in the state. The youth is sitting at home with degrees. Those who asked for jobs were beaten. Jobs were always avoided. But our government will not do that. “We will take concrete steps to address the issue of unemployment,” Mann assured.
