Nawab Malik has been remanded in judicial custody till April 4. Malik’s application for bail in the Mumbai High Court was rejected. It has been challenged by Malik in the Supreme Court. Malik has objected to the arrest in his application. “My arrest is completely illegal and I should be released immediately,” Malik said in his application. Although the application has been filed, the date of hearing has not been fixed yet.

What exactly is the case?

Malik, who is the Minority Development Minister in the Maharashtra government, was arrested on February 23 by the Directorate of Recovery (ED). The action caused a great stir. The action was taken in a case filed against underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The case is related to a land deal and Malik has been charged with terror funding and money laundering. Malik has denied all the allegations, saying the ED’s action was illegal. Malik had approached the Mumbai High Court against the arrest. But they were not relieved. That is why they have gone to the Supreme Court. Opposition BJP, on the other hand, has been pushing for Malik’s resignation. However, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has rejected the BJP’s demand, saying that if the allegations against Malik are proved, action will be taken against him. Due to this, the conflict between the ruling party and the opposition continues.
