A woman from South Africa who came to Mumbai has been found to be infected with XE variant of Corona. This information has been given in the CERO survey report of Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The woman arrived in Mumbai on February 10. A subsequent investigation on February 27 found Kovid infected. Her samples were sent to the laboratory of Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai for genetic sequencing. Initial investigations revealed that the woman was infected with the XE variant. Subsequently, an investigation by GISAID also revealed that the variant was XE, the municipality said. The samples have been sent to the National Laboratory to avoid any suspicion, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation said. Sources in the Union Ministry of Health have given a different opinion in this regard.

‘This XE variant seems less likely to be an infected patient. Judging by the genomic evidence related to the investigation, it does not appear to be an XE variant, ”said a senior health ministry official. The official also cited the analysis of genomic experts.
Meanwhile, a report from the National Virology Laboratory has not yet been received. The report will be decisive as to whether the woman was infected with the XE virus or not. This woman is now fully recovered. Her corona test report came back negative.
