Russia-Ukraine war raises wheat prices; The government took a big decision about exports

The government has taken this step keeping in view the food security of the country. Wheat has been placed in the restricted category. In a notification, the government said that this was necessary to help neighboring countries and poor countries. However, wheat exports to needy countries will continue.
Wheat prices have risen sharply internationally for a number of reasons. This poses a threat to the food security of neighboring countries, including India. That is why the government has to stop exporting wheat. Wheat has been moved from the free category to the restricted category, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.

The war in Russia and Ukraine had pushed up the price of wheat in the international market. Wheat is widely grown in both Russia and Ukraine. However, the war has affected wheat supplies from both countries. In the international market, wheat prices have risen by almost 40 per cent and in the retail market, both wheat and flour have become more expensive.

India is the second largest producer of wheat in the world. Inflation in wheat and wheat flour in April It was 59%. This rate was higher than in March. Wheat purchases declined by 55 per cent. The government has fixed MSP for wheat at Rs 2,015 per quintal.
