PMCares is financed by donations from individuals, organizations, corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, foreign individuals / organizations, public sector undertakings. Under the mandatory conditions under Section 2 (h) of the RTI Act, the trust is not funded by the government; Also private individuals do not run this trust as trustees. Therefore, the PM Care Fund cannot be considered a public authority, ‘the RTI North Central Government has said.
The PM Cares Trust was registered on March 27 with the Prime Minister as its chairman and senior ministers as trustees. The trust’s contract, announced a few days ago, states that the trust is not owned or controlled by the government. It has also been clarified that the trust is not directly or indirectly controlled by the Center or any state government.
In the face of contradiction
Confusion over the PMCARS fund has grown after a discrepancy between the central government’s response and the trust’s official documents emerged. The fund, set up as a government institution, has received crores of rupees from various donors. Although it is necessary to disclose the details of such donors, the PM Cares Fund is not bound by it.
