New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday inaugurate India’s first driverless metro operating service on the Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Janakpuri West – Botanical Gardens). According to Delhi Metro, the launch of this new generation of trains will put Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) in a special group of seven per cent of the world’s metro networks providing driverless operational services. Along with the Metro service, the Prime Minister will also launch the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) service on the Airport Express line.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this railway through video conferencing at 11.00 am. After the launch of driverless metro on this 37 km long magenta line between Janakpuri West and Botanical Gardens, in the second phase, driverless metro service will be started on the 57 km long pink line between Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar till mid-2021.

These driverless metros will be automatic. There will be very little human intervention. Human error is also likely to decrease.

With the full implementation of the National Common Mobility Card on the Delhi Airport Express Line, the Rupee Debit Card issued from any part of the country can be used for travel. This facility will be made available on the entire network of Delhi Metro by 2022.
