Panji: There is an important news for liquor lovers who are planning to spend Diwali vacation in Goa. Beer is going to be expensive in Goa now. As the state government has increased the excise duty on beer, the price of beer has now increased by Rs 10 to 12 per litre. The excise department of the state had announced the duty hike two days ago.

With the increase in excise duty, one will have to pay Rs 10 more per liter of wholesale beer. In other words, the price of light beer has increased by Rs. 15 per liter and that of strong beer by Rs. 20-25 per liter, said the president of the Liquor Sellers Association. Liquor is in high demand in Goa. The combination of beach and beer always attracts tourists. Many tourists come to the state due to cheap liquor. The government also gets a lot of income from this. But now as beer prices are going to increase in Goa, Talirams will have to pay more charges.

The Goa government had already indicated that it would increase the excise duty on liquor. Accordingly, the tax on beer has now been increased. Goa’s reputation as a state that sells cheap beer has fallen behind due to the increase in excise duty. Regarding the sale of foreign liquor, more than half of the market in Goa has gone to the North Indian states, the liquor sellers here have lamented.

If the government does not take concrete steps against the sale of liquor, the situation may worsen.
