Dhaka: With the increase in crime incidents, another shocking case has come to light. A shoplifter trapped in a shop after a burglary in Bangladesh’s Barishal district has sought police help to prevent a possible ‘mob lynching’. Officials gave this information on Friday. A 40-year-old thief, who broke into a grocery shop in AR Bazar area of Bandar on Thursday night, was found trapped inside the shop. Outside which a crowd had gathered.
According to the police, the thief thought that the mob would thrash him if he left the shop on his own. So he called the police on the national helpline number ‘999’ and explained his situation and asked for help to get out safely. Realizing the danger, the local police took immediate action. Bandar police station chief Asaduzman told reporters that this is the first time in my decade-long career that a thief has called the police after committing a crime.

The shop owner did not know what exactly happened in all this. When he came to open the shop on Friday morning, he found a crowd gathered outside the shop and the police searching. Shop owner Zanthu Mian told reporters, “The police stopped me from entering my shop for some time. After some time they took out one person. Then I realized what was happening.”
