New Delhi: The central government has given a big blow to the Congress. The license of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation to receive funds from abroad has been cancelled. The Ministry of Home Affairs has revoked the license of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation under the Foreign Contribution Act. This action has been taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs, alleging misuse of foreign funds.

In July 2022, an inquiry committee was formed in this matter. This action has been taken on the basis of his report. The committee consisted of officials from Home Ministry, ED, CBI and Income Tax Department. According to sources, the FCRA license cancellation notice has been sent to the office bearer of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. So, in the trust, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. According to RGF’s website, the organization was established in 1991.

Allegations of funding coming from China

In June 2020, the BJP had accused the foundation of receiving funding from abroad. This claim was made by BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad. China had given funds for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. According to the law, no political party can accept currency from abroad without the permission of the government. Did the Congress take the government’s permission for this donation? Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that he should clarify this.

Allegation of funding of Rs. 90 lakhs

The Chinese Embassy has given funds in the 2005-06 list of donors for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Many industrialists and PSUs are also named in it. Ravi Shankar Prasad has also alleged that this foundation received 90 lakhs of funding from China.
