Death of Basvalinga Swami, body found in his room in the monastery

Bangalore: A shocking incident has taken place when Baswalinga Swamy (45), head priest of Sri Kanchugal Bande Math in Ramnagar district of Karnataka, committed suicide by hanging himself in his room. A two page suicide note was found in his room. The police have registered his unnatural death and started investigation.

The incident of alleged suicide of Basavalinga Swami in Kempapura village near Magadi in Ramnagar district came to light on Monday morning, Kudur police chief said. His body was found hanging from the pooja window of the monastery.

Baswalinga Swamy became the head priest of this 400-year-old monastery in 1997. Around six o’clock on Monday morning, some disciples saw him hanging and informed the police. The police immediately reached the spot and sent the body to the government hospital in Nilamangala for autopsy.

Some are accused of defamation

After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the Math. Police found a two-page suicide note from his room. According to sources in the Math, some people were trying to defame him. The police have not yet released the details of the suicide note to the media.

Blackmailing by some

Ramnagar police officer SP Santosh Babu said that we have registered a case of abetment to suicide and are investigating. According to police sources, Baswalinga Swamy is being blackmailed by some miscreants. First the people close to him will be interrogated. Others were constantly in touch with him on phone. They will also be interrogated. It is also known that some miscreants harassed by making video calls.

This is the second suicide of a mutt guru in a year

This is the second case of a Math head committing suicide in Karnataka in a year. Earlier on December 19, 2021, Baswalinga Swami of Chilum Math was found dead in a similar manner. It is said that he took this step due to ill health.
