London: Huzur party leader Rishi Sunak has proved to be the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of Britain to make history. Sunak’s only rival, House of Commons Leader Penny Mordant, also announced her withdrawal from the race after former Prime Minister Boris Johnson withdrew from the race. After that, Sunak has been elected unopposed as the leader of Hujur Party. There is an atmosphere of joy in India as this news has come out in the background of Diwali. Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murthy is the daughter of Infosys co-founders Narayan Murthy and Sudha Murthy. They met while doing MBA at Stanford University in California, USA. Both got married in 2009. Rishi and Akshata have two daughters Krishna and Anushka.

Sunak, a former finance minister, had the support of more than half of Hujur Party’s 357 MPs, while he needed at least 100 MPs to win. Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of Huzoor’s influential caucus of 1,922 MPs, announced in Parliament that he had received only one nomination. So Sunak won the leadership contest. This means Sunak will be sworn in as Prime Minister after meeting His Majesty Charles III at Buckingham Palace. The next schedule will be announced soon. Interestingly, he will also be the youngest Prime Minister of Britain in the last 200 years. Sunak is 42 years old.
