‘Modi government changes law …’
No solution could be found in today’s discussion. The government says all three laws will not be repealed. The government has made changes in this ‘Essential Commodities Act’ so these changes should be withdrawn by the government. Farmers say there is no need to repeal the entire law. However, no assurance has been given by the agriculture minister in this regard, said the leaders of the farmers’ association after the meeting.
The next meeting will be held on January 19 at Vigyan Bhavan. On January 26, the farmers have decided to hold a ‘tractor rally’. The protesters also said that the route of the tractor rally and the outline of their protest would be decided soon.
Notably, the Supreme Court did not grant a temporary stay on the Agriculture Act on January 11. The apex court had also appointed a four-member committee to look into the matter. However, Bhupinder Singh Mann, a member of the committee and president of the Indian Farmers’ Union, stepped out.
It has been alleged by farmers’ organizations that the committee includes pro-government members. “We are ready to discuss with the government not once but many times, but we will not go before the committee,” the farmers said. According to the farmers, the members of this committee have already supported the agricultural laws.
