Yamunanagar: Police have given protection to a Muslim youth converts and his wife who converted to Islam for marrying a Hindu girl after the Punjab and Haryana High Court took notice. The state government has constituted a three-member committee to draft a law against ‘Love Jihad’, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij had said last week. Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep said on Tuesday that the 21-year-old man and the 19-year-old girl had got married on November 9 in a Hindu manner. This young man had also changed his name after marriage. The couple then knocked on the High Court door. The youth told the court that he was in danger of losing his life and personal freedom from the girl’s family. The couple also told the court that opposing their marriage was a serious violation of their rights under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

Police tried to persuade the girl’s family
Following the directions of the High Court, the police sent them to a security house in Yamunanagar to provide security to the two. For the past few days, these married youths have been living in this safe house. Police also visited the girl’s family and tried to persuade them. The couple is now legally married and should be able to live together as per their wishes, the police told the girl’s family.
