Joshimath,: It is understood that the Rishiganga project in Reni area of Joshimath in Uttarakhand was severely damaged after an avalanche hit the project. The construction of Chamoli Hydro Power Project in Tapovan has been affected. This has led to flooding in the area. It is understood that many locals were swept away in the sudden onslaught of water. The water level of Dhauliganga river suddenly rose after a sudden power outage near a power project in Reni village in Tapovan area of Chamoli district. The Chamoli District Collector has directed to evacuate the residents of the villages situated on the banks of Dhauliganga river immediately. The administration has started efforts to bring the situation under control as soon as the incident was reported. The rescue operation is underway. Collector and Superintendent of Police have been dispatched to the spot.
