New Delhi: The Indian government has ordered Wikipedia to remove the wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir from its platform.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has ordered the removal of a link to Wikipedia showing an incorrect map of Jammu and Kashmir under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

The incident came to light after a Twitter user reported the matter. This had caught the attention of many after the user pointed out that Wikipedia had shown the wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir on the link related to Indo-Bhutan relations. Indian citizens were urged to take action in this regard.

According to sources, the ministry took note of the matter and issued an order on November 27, 2020, ordering Wikipedia to remove the wrong map. The Center said that this was a violation of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

If the map is not changed, legal action will be taken against the company, the government said. Action may also be taken to block the entire Wikipedia platform.
