About seven passengers were evacuated after the accident. So far, 38 bodies have been recovered while the search for others is on. The canal is so deep that the entire bus is seen submerged in the canal water. Efforts are underway to get the bus out with the help of a crane.
After the accident, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and started trying to help the victims. A large number of citizens are present here. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacted with the District Collector regarding the bus accident. The state government has also announced assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

‘The canal is very deep. We immediately ordered the dam to stop flowing and ordered relief and rescue teams to be dispatched. Collector, SP and SDRF teams are present to help. Efforts are underway to get the bus out. I am in touch with the team involved in the relief and rescue operation. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed that seven lives have been saved.

The accident took place near Chuhiyaghat near the Rewa-Sidhi border. The bus crashed in the canal of Bansagar project. SDRF is being used to help the victims.
