ANI quoted Shivraj as saying. ‘Government belongs to all religions and all castes. There is no discrimination. But if someone does something disgusting to our girls, I will break it. If someone plans to convert or does something like love jihad, you will be devastated, said Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The BJP-led government in Madhya Pradesh has drafted a bill against ‘love jihad’. This warning has since been issued. The bill provides for 10 years imprisonment for those who marry for the purpose of conversion.

The Madhya Pradesh government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan has drafted the ‘Freedom of Religion Bill 2020’ under the Prevention of Love Jihad to curb ‘Love Jihad’. According to the proposed bill, anyone who cheats in Madhya Pradesh by hiding their religion will be sentenced to 10 years. Not only this, the registration of the helping organization will also be canceled. A religious leader who does not apply for conversion can be sentenced to 5 years. The proposed bill will be tabled in the Cabinet in the second week of December and will be tabled in the Assembly during the winter session in the last week of December, sources said.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra recently held a meeting with senior officials from the police and law department. It discussed freedom of religion and laws in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. It was decided in the meeting that the punishment will be increased from 5 to 10 years in the proposed law. A religious leader, qazi or cleric who arranges such a marriage can be sentenced to 5 years. They will be deregistered. Information must be given one month before conversion. Victims, parents, family members can sue for conversion and forced marriage. The crime will be noticeable and bail will not be granted, Mishra clarified.
