New Delhi: A chamoli glacier burst in Uttarakhand has left 136 people missing. Now the state government has declared all these missing (dead to be declared dead) citizens dead. The Uttarakhand government (Uttarakhand glacier burst) issued the order on Tuesday. The total number of people who lost their lives in the accident has gone up to 206 after the government declared the missing citizens dead. As of today, the 17th day of the accident, 70 bodies and 29 human organs have been found.

Continuous search is underway in and around Chamoli. A large number of civilian bodies have been exhumed. Some have even been saved. However, those who have not yet been identified have been declared dead, the state government said.

Widened the mouth of the artificial lake created on Rishi Ganga

There is still a big threat from the artificial lake created on the river Rishiganga near Raini village in Chamoli after the glacier broke. Due to the small mouth of the lake, the flow of water was decreasing. This caused the lake to burst. ITBP personnel have widened the mouth of the lake by about 15 feet. The pressure was created due to stagnant water. Work is underway to widen the mouth of the lake, said Navneet Bhullar, Commandant, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

About 4.80 crore liters of water in the lake

A team of Indian Navy, Air Force and experts inspected the artificial lake created on Rishi Ganga. The depth of the lake was measured by submarines. The lake holds about 4.80 crore liters of water.

The artificial lake is about 750 meters long and is getting narrower. Its depth is eight meters. Navy submarines measured the depth of the lake by echoing waves in their hands. If this lake bursts, it can cause great damage. According to experts, the lake is similar to Kedarnath’s Chaurabadi. In 2013, a 250-meter-long, 1,150-meter-wide and about 20-meter-deep towel exploded at the top of Kedarnath, causing a major accident. According to experts, about 17,000 liters of water was coming out of this lake every second.

Sensors have also been installed to monitor all the movements of the artificial pond. A team of experts has also been deployed. Apart from this, sensors have also been installed in the Rishiganga river, which will sound the alarm as the water level in the river rises. SDRF has also installed a contact device here.
