Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav also imposed a total fine of Rs 11 lakh on Ariz while delivering the verdict in the Batla House encounter case. The court has ordered immediate payment of Rs 10 lakh to Sharma’s family. Additional Public Prosecutor A.S. T. Ansari said, “This was not just a simple murder, it was the murder of a law enforcement officer. The accused should be sentenced to death only for this crime. Accused Ariz Khan is said to be associated with the Indian Mujahideen. Adv. M. S. Khan opposed the sentencing of Ariz to death, saying the incident during the Batla House encounter was not premeditated.
The court had convicted Ariz Khan and Shehzad Ahmed. Ariz Khan and his accomplices assassinate a police officer; The court had on March 8 said that it was proved that the police officers were also shot. The incident took place in 2008 at Batla House in Jamianagar, South Delhi. At that time, Ariz Khan had fled after shooting dead Special Inspector of Police Mohanchand Sharma. The court had found him guilty. Subsequently, on February 14, 2018, the police succeeded in capturing Ariz’s smile and a case was started against him. Meanwhile, the court has sentenced Ariz’s accomplice and Indian Mujahideen militant Shahzad Ahmed to life imprisonment in July 2013. Ahmed’s appeal against the verdict is pending in the High Court.
