Now that farmers in the country have sold their agricultural produce to the government at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the government will deposit the amount in their bank accounts, said Piyush Goyal. This is a big change for the benefit of the farmers after independence. This step taken by Prime Minister Modi in the interest of farmers will benefit small and marginal farmers.
Farmers in Punjab will now be credited to their bank accounts for the amount of agricultural produce they sold to the government on MSP. It will also benefit farmers who farm on a contract basis. With transparency in the system, farmers should not be fooled by anyone. Farmers will get full price for their agricultural produce. The amount of agricultural produce sold to farmers in Punjab by the government will be credited to their bank account. The system has been implemented across the country, Goyal said.
To bring transparency in the procurement of agricultural commodities by the government, the Union Ministry of Finance has made a rule to deposit money directly in bank accounts (DBT). This rule was implemented in all the states except Punjab. In 2018 and 2019, the Central Government has written to the Punjab Government more than 12 times. But the Punjab government refused to enforce the rule permanently. The reason given was that it was not possible to do so due to pressure from the authorities and the rules of the Agricultural Produce Market Committees.
