New Delhi: In order to settle the Ayodhya dispute, the defunct Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Sharad Bobde (cji sharad bobde) was planning to appoint Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan as mediator. The matter came to light during Sharad Bobade’s farewell function. Sharad Bobade wanted actor Shah Rukh Khan to be part of the process of settling the Ayodhya issue.

The secret was revealed while Vikram Singh, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and a senior lawyer, was speaking at the farewell ceremony of the late Chief Justice Sharad Bobade. A five-judge bench headed by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had appointed a committee in March 2019 to mediate in the Ayodhya case.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan was also ready for this. But the process could not proceed. At the outset of the hearing, Justice Bobade was of the view that the Ayodhya case could be settled through mediation, Singh said.

They knew that I knew Shah Rukh Khan’s family. “We had discussed the matter with Shah Rukh Khan and he had shown readiness,” Singh said.

The foundation of the temple should be laid by Muslims and the foundation of the mosque should be laid by Hindus. But the mediation process fizzled out and the plan had to be abandoned, Singh said. The arbitration committee consisted of former Supreme Court Justice FMI Kalifulla, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior lawyer Sriram Panchu.
