New Delhi: A second wave of corona virus has declared lockdown in several states. Today, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh declared a lockdown. On the other hand, a major decision has been taken to cancel the rounds of many express trains (Railway cancels 28 pairs of long distance trains). This raises the possibility of a nationwide lockdown.

Railways have canceled long-haul train journeys as several states have announced lockdowns and imposed strict restrictions to reduce the number of passengers. Railways have canceled rounds of Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Duranto and Vande Bharat Express. A total of 28 pairs of trains have been canceled. The trains will remain canceled till further orders, Railways said.

Among the canceled trains, eight pairs of Shatabdi, two pairs of Duranto, two pairs of Rajdhani and one pair of Vande Bharat Express have been canceled, according to the Northern Railway.

The canceled trains include New Delhi-Habibganj Shatabdi Special, New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Special, New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Special, New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Special, New Delhi-Kathgodam Shatabdi Special and New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi Special. All these trains have been canceled from May 9 till further orders.

Duranto and Vande Bharat Express rounds also canceled

The Nizamuddin-Pune Duranto Special will be canceled from May 10 and the Sarai Rohilla-Jammu Duranto Special from May 9 until further notice. The Nizamuddin-Chennai Rajdhani Special has been canceled from May 12 and the New Delhi-Bilaspur Rajdhani Special from May 11 till further orders. The Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Special Express has been canceled from May 9 till further orders. Normal trains are closed due to the Corona crisis. But special trains are being run by the railways for the convenience of the passengers.
