Highlights:
- Patients once again lost their lives due to lack of oxygen
- Patients die after oxygen levels fall
- The state government was also slammed by the high court over the supply of oxygen
At around 1.30 pm on Thursday, the relatives of the patients had informed that the oxygen level of the patients admitted in the GMC was declining. Wards 143, 144, 145, 146 and 149 were running out of oxygen. Attempts were made to contact senior GMC officials and Scoop Industry (a company contracted by GMC for oxygen supply) for oxygen supply, but they received no response, relatives of the patients complained.
Two days ago, 26 patients died due to lack of oxygen in the same hospital. Notably, about 41 deaths have been reported in Goa in the last three days due to lack of oxygen.
During the Mumbai High Court hearing in the case, the Goa government had cited a shortage of expert tractor drivers to disrupt oxygen services. The state government was also slapped by the high court on this.
While the Mumbai High Court had issued a stern order to the Goa government, the High Court had given a firm order to the Goa government not to let more patients die due to lack of oxygen in the hospital.
