Both the leaders were shifted from the Presidency Jail to the Woodburn block of SSKM Hospital after Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee fell ill late last night.
The CBI has arrested four accused in the Narda sting operation in 2014. The CBI had on Monday arrested a total of four leaders, including two Trinamool Congress ministers, in connection with the Narada scam. Firhad Hakeem, Suvrat Mukherjee, MLA Madan Mitra and former Trinamool leader and former Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee were arrested. Of the leaders arrested now, only Firhad Hakeem is in jail.
CM’s six-hour agitation
On Monday, Chief Minister Banerjee entered the CBI office and challenged the CBI officials to arrest him. In protest against the arrest of Trinamool ministers and leaders, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a six-hour sit-in at the CBI office from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm. They had crowded the CBI premises. The CBI office at the Nizam’s Palace in Kolkata became the center of political activity.
CBI court grants bail but …
A special CBI court had granted bail to Trinamool leaders Firhad Hakeem, Suvrat Mukherjee, MLA Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee in the case. But the Kolkata High Court soon stayed the lower court’s order.
Arson in many places in the state
Protesting against the arrest, Trinamool supporters set fire to tires and blocked roads in Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts. Taking note of the protests in the state, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar appealed to the Chief Minister to control the situation.
